Who gets to be beautiful?

Why has lighter skin been associated with beauty, success, desirability and even social status across South Asia?

Join me at Kartul for a cozy evening of chai (milk tea), South Asian snacks and a visual exploration of colorism — looking at advertisements, popular culture and the history of how ideas around skin colour and beauty have been shaped by colonialism, commerce and media.

We’ll look at where these ideas came from, how they evolved, and why they continue to show up in everything from beauty advertisements to cinema, social media and matrimonial culture.

Capacity is limited, so reserve your spot through the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/who-gets-to-be-beautiful-tickets-2002116914587

Come curious. Leave with a different way of looking at beauty.
